Scheduling Imprecise Computation Tasks on Parallel Machines to Minimize Linear and Non-Linear Error Penalties: Reviews, Links and Improvements

چکیده
We study scheduling problems with controllable processing times on parallel machines, in which the decision-maker selects an actual processing time for each job from a given interval. The chosen values of the processing times must be such that each job can be preemptively scheduled within a given time interval, and it is required to minimize a certain cost function that depends on the chosen times. Using a popular interpretation of these models, we formulate these problems in terms of scheduling imprecise computation tasks, with the objective functions that depend on errors of computation. We prove that all problems traditionally considered within the body of research on scheduling imprecise computation tasks on parallel machines are no harder computationally than their counterparts with ...xed processing times. As a rule, we achieve these best possible algorithms not by building specialized procedures, but rather by adapting advanced methods for solving network ‡ow problems and techniques of submodular optimization.

A Possibility Linear Programming Approach to Solve a Fuzzy Single Machine Scheduling Problem
This paper employs an interactive possibility linear programming approach to solve a single machine scheduling problem with imprecise processing times, due dates, as well as earliness and tardiness penalties of jobs. The proposed approach is based on a strategy of minimizing the most possible value of the imprecise total costs, maximizing the possibility of obtaining a lower total costs, and mi...

This paper addresses an unrelated multi-machine scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup time, release date and processing set restriction to minimize the sum of weighted earliness/tardiness penalties and the sum of completion times, which is known to be NP-hard. A Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) model is proposed to formulate the considered multi-criteria problem. Also, to solve the mo...
متن کاملHeuristic approach to solve hybrid flow shop scheduling problem with unrelated parallel machines
In hybrid flow shop scheduling problem (HFS) with unrelated parallel machines, a set of n jobs are processed on k machines. A mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model for the HFS scheduling problems with unrelated parallel machines has been proposed to minimize the maximum completion time (makespan). Since the problem is shown to be NP-complete, it is necessary to use heuristic methods to ...

This paper considers a bi-objective model for a scheduling problem of unrelated parallel batch processing machines to minimize the makespan and maximum tardiness, simultaneously. Each job has a specific size and the data corresponding to its ready time, due date and processing time-dependent machine are uncertain and determined by trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. Each machine has a specific capacity,...

This paper studies the parallel machine scheduling problem subject to machine and job deterioration in a batched delivery system. By the machine deterioration effect, we mean that each machine deteriorates over time, at a different rate. Moreover, job processing times are increasing functions of their starting times and follow a simple linear deterioration. The objective functions are minimizin...
